Apple announced new accessibility features for this year, including Door Detection, Live Captions, and Apple Watch Mirroring, among others

Apple announced new accessibility features

In celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple is previewing a variety of new accessibility features that will be added to the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac later this year. Apple claims that these new features will make it easier for users with disabilities to “navigate, connect, and maximize Apple products.”

Door Detection

Apple claims that one of the new features, Door Detection, can assist users in locating a door upon arrival at a new location. Door Detection can assist users in determining their distance from a door and describing its characteristics, such as whether it is open or closed. The feature can inform the user whether the door can be opened by pushing, turning a knob, or pulling a handle if the door is closed.

Door Detection can also interpret signs and symbols near the door, such as room numbers or the “presence of an accessible entrance symbol.” LiDAR, the camera on your iPhone or iPad, and machine learning are all used by the Door Detection feature.

Mirroring on Apple Watch and Quick Actions

Regarding Apple Watch users, Apple has announced a new mirroring feature for the Apple Watch. This is said to be a way to make the Apple Watch “easier for people with physical and motor disabilities to use than ever before.”

Apple explains that Apple Watch Mirroring enables users to control their Apple Watch using the iPhone’s assistive features such as Voice Control and Switch Control, as well as inputs such as voice commands, sound actions, head tracking, and external Made for iPhone switches as alternatives to tapping the Apple Watch display.

Apple Watch Mirroring combines hardware and software capabilities, including “AirPlay-based advancements.” Users who depend on these mobility features can access blood oxygen, heart rate, mindfulness, and other features from their Apple Watch.

Live Captions

Apple has introduced Live Captions for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. FaceTime calls, other social media or video apps, streaming media content, or even “having a conversation with someone next to them” are all examples of audio content that can benefit from this feature.

More

Apple also unveiled the following new accessibility features today:

  • Additional languages and locales are being added to Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader for blind and low-vision users, including Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalonia, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
  • It is possible to play a game with the help of a care provider or friend thanks to the use of a Buddy Controller, which combines any two game controllers into one.
  • People who have trouble speaking can now change how long it takes Siri to respond by turning on the “Siri Pause Time” feature.
  • Using the letter-by-letter input method, the Voice Control Spelling Mode lets users dictate their own custom spellings.
  • There are a number of ways in which sound recognition can be tailored to a person’s specific environment (such as their home’s unique alarm, doorbell, or appliances).
  • Customization options like bolding text and changing line, character, and word spacing will be added to the Apple Books app for an improved reading experience.

According to recent findings, flawed artificial intelligence could lead to racist and sexist behavior in robots

Untitled design 13

A robot that uses a well-known internet-based artificial intelligence system favored men over women, white people over people of color, and made snap judgments about people’s jobs based solely on the appearance of their faces.

This behavior was observed repeatedly and persistently. These are the primary conclusions drawn from a study that was carried out by researchers at Johns Hopkins University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Washington.

The findings of the investigation have been compiled into a research article with the working title “Robots Enact Malignant Stereotypes.”

The article is scheduled to be published and presented at the 2022 Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency this coming week (ACM FACCT).

In a press statement, the author Andrew Hundt said, “We are at risk of creating a generation of racist and sexist robots,” but people and organizations have decided it’s okay to create these products without addressing the issues.

“We are at risk of creating a generation of racist and sexist robots,” Hundt is currently employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Tech.

Prior to that, he was a doctoral student at Johns Hopkins University, where he worked in the Computational Interaction and Robotics Laboratory.

The researchers examined recently published methods of robot manipulation and presented them with objects that have pictures of human faces on the surface, with the faces varying in terms of both race and gender.

After that, they provided task descriptions that contained terms that are commonly associated with preconceived notions.

The experiments demonstrated robots behaving in ways that perpetuate harmful stereotypes regarding gender, race, and physiognomy that have been discredited by science.

The practice of making judgments about a person’s personality and capabilities solely based on their physical appearance is known as physiognomy.

When developing artificial intelligence models to recognize humans and objects, the people who build these models frequently make use of large datasets that are freely available on the internet.

However, because the internet contains a lot of content that is both inaccurate and overtly biased, any algorithms that are built using this data will also have the same issues.

The researchers demonstrated that facial recognition products and a neural network called CLIP, which compares images to captions, both have racial and gender biases.

These kinds of neural networks are essential to the process by which robots acquire the ability to recognize objects and engage with the outside world.

The research group came up with the idea of putting an artificial intelligence model for robots that is built on the CLIP neural network through a series of tests.

The goal was to determine whether or not the model could help the machine “see” and identify objects by name. The Indian Express is the cited publication.

The price of the Nothing Phone (1) has not been determined as of yet, but the product sheet provides some hints

Untitled design 12

The launch event for Nothing Phone (1) is scheduled to take place on July 12. The company has started its marketing campaign with full force in an effort to generate excitement about the introduction of the world’s first smartphone.

Although the company is emphasizing the design of the Nothing Phone as its unique selling proposition (USP), they are also promoting the device’s specifications as well as its other features.

Nothing’s intention to position itself in the market as a premium brand has already been made abundantly clear.

The company’s goal is to create an ecosystem that is comparable to that which Apple has established with its various goods and services.

On the other hand, it is extremely unlikely that the price of the Nothing Phone (1) in India will be the same as or even close to the price of the iPhone 13.

It is reasonable to assume, given the features that are currently available, that the price of the Nothing Phone (1) in India will be less than 50,000 rupees.

There have been rumors and speculations circulating that the price of the smartphone in India could range anywhere from 35,000 to 40,000 rupees when it first goes on sale.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ is the system-on-a-chip (SoC) that will be included in the Nothing Phone (1).

The company has made the announcement that the phone will be equipped with a Snapdragon processor, but they have not provided any additional information about the chipset.

In spite of this, a listing on Geekbench has disclosed that the Nothing Phone (1) will come equipped with a Snapdragon 778G+ SoC, the same processor that is found in the Moto Edge 30.

Although the SoC is not the only factor that determines the price of the product, its importance cannot be overstated in terms of the product’s overall positioning.

Thanks to its manufacturing process, Qualcomm’s 6nm chipset achieves a good compromise between overall performance and power consumption.

Therefore, the Nothing Phone (1) could offer great performance, despite the fact that it does not provide an experience on par with that of a flagship device.

And because it was fabricated using 6nm technology, the processor will use a great deal less power.

In addition to the processor, it has also been confirmed that the back of the phone will house a dual camera setup. This information comes from nothing.

As of right now, there is no information available regarding the camera’s technical specifications.

According to a number of reports, the primary camera on the phone will have a resolution of 50 megapixels, and the ultrawide camera sensor will have a resolution of 8 megapixels.

Others have speculated that the primary camera will have a resolution of 64 Mega Pixels and support for optical image stabilization (OIS).

In order for us to get an idea of the kind of hardware that is being used in the camera setup, we will have to wait for Nothing’s official confirmation of it.

Additionally, the phone will support wireless charging, which is not something that is very commonly seen in this market segment.

From 2020 onwards, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G will be the only smartphone in India with wireless charging that costs less than Rs 40,000.Nothing is said to cover that ground as well as other phones in the same price range do, with support for 45W wired fast charging.

Other phones in the same price range offer support for wired fast charging.

In addition to this, it is rumored that the smartphone will feature a 6.55-inch Full HD+ OLED display that will support a 120Hz refresh rate.

A rectangular cutout for the front-facing camera can be found in the upper left hand corner of the display, which is flat.

The phone (1) features a transparent design, but it also has another design element that sets it apart from other phones.

The device has a number of stripes on the back that operate as notification lights. These stripes are located in multiple rows.

Nothing refers to it as the Glyph Interface, and it has nearly 900 individual LED lights that can glow brighter or dimmer depending on the action that is being carried out.

When the phone is being charged, for instance, the C-shaped notification light in the middle of the device will light up.

When the device is being charged, a second LED strip that is located at the bottom of the rear panel will begin to illuminate.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that the 10 stock ringtones that are available at launch have been tuned to work with the LED lights.

These LED lights can also be customized by the user according to their individual tastes.

It has also been confirmed that the phone (1) will boot the Android 12-based Nothing OS straight out of the box.

The individualized Android skin will provide a user interface that is uncluttered and unobtrusive while offering a comprehensive set of features.

In light of all the information that has been uncovered up until this point, it is reasonable to assume that the price of the Nothing Phone (1) in India will be close to Rs 35,000.

This is so because the Phone (1) comes with a few features that are entirely its own. These include, but are not limited to, a distinctive design language, the ability to charge wirelessly, an uncluttered user experience, and a capable performance unit.

This is, of course, nothing more than an assumption based on the information that is circulating, both officially and unofficially.

It is possible that Carl Pei will announce the price of the Nothing Phone (1) in India before it becomes available anywhere else in the world, just as he did with the company’s first TWS, Ear (1).

If this is not the case, we will not be able to obtain the official pricing and availability details until July 12th.

There is also no evidence to suggest that the phone will be sold on Flipkart when it finally becomes available.

In addition to this, the smartphone will be offered for sale through a system that requires an invite in order to make a purchase.

There is no indication that an invite-only system will facilitate the acquisition of the phone number one by community members in advance of other customers.

Additionally, it will help the company have better control over its supply chain, which will help ensure that the warehouse does not have an excessive amount of inventory stocked in it.

An Arc A770M GPU is included in the compact Intel NUC 12 Serpent Canyon personal computer.

Untitled design 11

The new NUC, equipped with the i7-12700H, is the most powerful product offered by the company.

Mini PCs manufactured by Intel NUC have always been reliable machines, particularly in terms of their central processing units (CPU).

Now, the company is releasing the most powerful NUC it has produced to this point.

The Core i7-12700H and Arc A770M GPU found in the O NUC 12 Serpent Canyon are the most advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) available in Intel’s Arc Alchemist product line. Both components come from Intel.

We are aware that the processing power of the new NUC is superior to that of previous models because the i7-1165G7 is included in the top model.

But when it comes to graphics chips, we aren’t so sure, because the previous model came equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, and we still don’t know if an Arc A770M is superior to NVIDIA’s GPU.

This is why we can’t say for certain that the new model will have better graphics chips. The question remains unanswered.

The combination of an Intel CPU and GPU ought to become increasingly prevalent.

In keeping with tradition, Intel NUC hardware is derived from mobile variants. It is an SKU that comes standard with well-built gaming notebooks, as well as a very powerful CPU in its own right, with 14 cores (6P+8E), 20 threads, and a frequency of 4.7 GHz.The i7-12700H has these specifications, and it operates at this speed.

Although there have been rumors that Intel will release an A780, the Intel Arc A770M GPU is currently the company’s highest-end SKU, and it makes full use of the power provided by the ACM-G10 chip.

This graphics processing unit (GPU) features 32 Xe cores, 4096 shading units (cores), and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory that can transfer data at 16 Gbps.

The graphics processing unit (GPU) has 32 processing cores that are dedicated to ray tracing.

There are ports for audio connections, USB 3.2 Type-A, Thunderbolt 4, 2.5G Ethernet, HDMI, and DisplayPort on the NUC Serpent Canyon itself, which has the same familiar design as the other NUC models. At this time, there is no information available regarding pricing or availability.

In recent hectic days, Intel has been hard at work releasing its first graphics cards to customers all over the world.

The first desktop Arc GPUs are only currently available in the Chinese market, and early benchmark results have not been favorable to Intel. However, this may change in the near future.

On the other hand, although Alder Lake processors have only been on the market for a short while, Intel is planning to launch the 13th generation of its Intel Core central processing units later on in this semester.

We only have access to unofficial information regarding what the Raptor Lakes will be capable of doing, specifically with regard to the processors that will compete with the seventh generation of AMD Ryzen Raphael.
